a tribute by fans of Lucio Fulci (boy wouldn't HE be proud...)

First off, this isn't an Italian film, it's made in Texas by a bunch of horror movie fans, specifically dedicated to Lucio Fulci. Having said that it's every bit as nonsensical as his films (which I do like, don't get me wrong) but minus the gore and ummm, some of the style, I guess. I thought this was actually made in the 90's, originally, but the date on IMDb says 1988, so I'm a little puzzled by that. It's definitely got that 80's look and feel and it's got that Fulci film feel to it, as in lots of events strung together that don't make much sense, but I think that's an Italian thing in general. A woman's sister disappears, and during her search for her she hooks up with a cop, and they find that her sister had some kind of connection with exploring alternate universes or some such thing. Well, all right, then. There's a few monstrous things, mostly unseen, a bit of gore here and there, and a bunch of folks that come and go without you really knowing who they were. Overall, it's kind of a mess but if you really think about it, a lot of Fulci's films weren't far off the mark from this either. OK, so it's not that great, but for a tribute film, they did a passable job, and it's not a total waste of time, but almost. For all that, I still like this for some reason, but by no means is it anything marvelous.

Genuinely disturbing, and done right

"Raw Meat" (aka "Death Line") is a truly unsettling experience, a low budget effort that uses its own limitations to achieve a gritty effect. The aspects of filth and decay in this movie are absolutely unnerving, and while the story remains just this side of unbelievable, the very idea of it was enough to make me a little queasy.

As the film opens, the disappearance of a prominent British government official leads the local inspectors to deduce that there's something strange about a particular station of the London subway. They notice that several other recent disappearances have occurred in this same location, and their suspicions are shared by a young couple who happen to have seen the missing official before his vanishing act. Donald Pleasance is the inspector who inherits the case, and when he investigates the history of the tube station, he discovers that an attempt to extend the tunnel in the late 1800s had met with disaster: a cave-in that buried a group of male and female workers alive.

The truth is that the cave-in only trapped the people; they survived by eating their own dead and actually kept reproducing. They lived in a dank section of the collapsed tunnel, surrounded by filth and rats, inhabiting what used to be a work station on the dig. The 'disappearances' are the work of the last surviving descendant of these cannibals, who has been left to carry on after his female companion (who was pregnant) expires.

There are some truly startling images in this film, including an excruciating unbroken tracking shot that explores a room in the underground lair littered with the dismembered, rotting corpses of the cannibal's latest victims. But what's best about it is that the gore isn't the only thing that's unsettling; the filmmakers also make great use of sound effects and the motion of the camera. There's a weird performance by Hugh Armstrong, who plays the cannibal man, and it's atypical because he's portrayed as sympathetic as well as menacing. He's in terrible health, we find out he's carrying a plague, he's sad that his lady has died, and yet he's also likely to split your head open with a shovel.

Donald Pleasance turns in a bravura performance as the police inspector, although the accents were a little difficult to understand; you may want to turn on the subtitles. And what could be bad about a movie in which Christopher Lee turns up, even if it's only for one scene? There are a few inconsistencies in the plot, the most obvious of which is the fact that the cannibals can somehow exit the tunnel to snatch victims away, so we wonder why they wouldn't just escape. I also wondered where all the light in this collapsed tunnel was coming from; at one point we see a character finding his way with a flashlight, and his silhouette is starkly projected from the side along a wall. But don't think about that for too long.

Like the inbred cannibals of the story, "Raw Meat" has remained 'buried' for a number of years, only recently becoming readily available on DVD. It's definitely worth your time; it's easily become one of my favorite 70s horror flicks, and right up there with "Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)" as one of the most disturbing films in general.

The brainy outcast in a hard-partying fraternity develops a revolutionary serum that can bring the dead back to life, and quickly discovers that messing with Mother Nature can have some truly gruesome results. For most of the brothers, life at the Delta Epsilon Delta house is one constant party. Edgar, however, would much rather spend his time working on a serum that could restore life to dead tissue instead of pounding beers and chasing sorority girls. When Edgar's serum brings a severed head back to life, word quickly gets out to local gangster Mugsy, whose girlfriend Hot Lips has recently been murdered. Unable to refuse Mugsy's strong-arm offer, Edgar uses his serum on Hot Lips and the former homicide victim quickly springs back to life. But ever since Hot Lips has returned the local body count has been skyrocketing, and by the time this gangster's moll sets out across campus on a homicidal rampage the quick-thinking Edgar must find a way to reverse the effects of the serum even if it does mean crossing the most powerful gangster in town.

Pleasance är brilljant i en rolig roll som inspektor.

Ska bli trevligt o se den.

bläddrade i en av mina böcker om snaskfilm.

Ja Raw Meat är en klassiker
Däremot Re-animator Academy har jag aldrig hört talas om men det finns kanske en anledning till det.

Kan anledningen vara att den är så pass obskyr?

Ett 20-30 tal av dessa filmer tillhör mina absoluta FAVORITER.

Riktigt mycket BRA film du har att se fram emot Ketcham.

Men som du själv sa, en hel del av dessa filmer är väldigt OOP på dvd.

Men lycka till, du brukar ju kunna ruska fram det flesta du önskar.

så pass få titlar, av dom jag har på min inköpslista, men

Men jag vänder på steken och tycker det är väldigt konstigt att du saknar så många titlar. Men du har ju inte samlat i över 25 år som jag har.

Sedan så är ju svaret VHS för min del, har absolut en hel del på din lista på DVD men de flesta är ju på VHS.

Och du har ju aldrig samlat på VHS så det är väl därför du saknar så många av dessa kultpärlor.

Det VIKTIGASTE är ju att du har massa BRA film att se fram emot och att du får tag på de flesta av dom.

Jo, för o vara så pass filmintresserad, som jag var't så länge, så kom jag inte igång med filmsamlandet på allvar förrän jag köpte min DVD-spelare. Hade inte särskilt många VHS-filmer i min ägo förut (inte om man jämför med hur många filmer flera andra personer hade/har/haft). Däremot hyrde jag mycket film, särskilt på 80-talet. O dom filmer jag ägde i VHS-formatet var alla bannade då o oklippta. O i bästa fall, vad gäller skick, så hade jag versioner som tidigare var't hyrfilmer.

Det va just detta jag syftade på, du har ju lika stort film intresse som mig.

Det SVÅRA måste vara hur du i helvete ska kunna välja ut 10-12 titlar bland alla dessa filmer till din första beställning.

Good, good very good! And…it's Dutch!?!

This movie opens with what probably is the best and most atmospheric thriller-sequence ever filmed in the Netherlands! While the credits are shown, a serial killers swims through the canals of Amsterdam, viciously lurking at potential victims that moor by the quayside. This scene is simply terrific and it somewhat feels like how Dario Argento would direct "Jaws"! Yes, it really is THAT intense and THAT disturbing. When the professional diver/maniac then comes out of the water, he brutally kills a prostitute and this means the first murder in a long series that'll terrorize the entire city of Amsterdam. Police inspector Eric Visser (Huub Stapel, with whom director Dick Maas already made the commercial successes "De Lift" and "Flodder") and his team try very hard to catch the killer but he always escapes thanks to his vast knowledge of the canal-network. With "De Lift" in 1983, Maas already proved that he was the only Dutch director of his generation capable of bringing unsettling and tense horror stories, but "Amsterdamned" is an even better movie because the atmosphere feels more realistic and the story is a lot more involving. With all the abrupt plot-twists and the extremely violent death-sequences, you could almost describe "Amsterdamned" as the only Dutch GIALLO ever made and it's perfectly able to compete with some of the better Italian efforts in this lovely sub genre of horror. Even the chilling musical score (composed by Dick Maas himself, as well) feels very giallo-like. Of course, the film isn't entirely flawless. Some action scenes (like the grotesque speed-boat chase) are just a tad bit exaggerated and the one many red herrings eventually ruin the credibility. Still, "Amsterdamned" unquestionably is one the best Dutch-spoken thriller ever and even horror fanatics across the ocean should consider importing it, if it were only for the nasty and downright shocking scene in which a severely mutilated corpse is dragged over a glass-topped tour boat filled with boy scouts. Great stuff!!

Slime City (1988)

A classic

Slime City is a movie about Robert Sabin eating yogurt or something and he starts to go insane as his body melts. So, he he decides to kill people. I saw this at a local mom and pop shop a few years ago, and the line on the front that proclaimed the movie was a "Jarring gore epic" really made me interested. It is jarring, it is kinda gory, but it's not really epic -- it's just really, really good. For those who like films like Body Melt and Basket Case, this is the perfect film for you. Weird gore scenes that don't really make any sense, one actress playing two different lead characters, and a script loading with strange events.

There's a gang member fight where one gang member gets his arm stuck inside a guy's body, there's some hilarious lines (a friends witnesses Robert's bodies melting and says, "And I thought my acne was bad!), and the finalé is silly but gooey and gory enough to be entertaining. The whole thing is a little directionless in some parts but is extremely compelling throughout and worth a watch for even people that aren't into campy gore movies.

Crass entertainment that's better than it sounds

Anybody knows me knows I love me some fetuses! The Suckling is totally offensive B-grade garbage of the highest caliber which mixes hookers, abortions, and the best creature in horror history to a heady mix.

A young preggers couple goes to see a matronly old abortionist who happens to operate out of a bordello. When baby is pulled out, the old abortionist has her whore assistant flush the afterbirth down the toilet where it makes a landing in a puddle of toxic waste. Thus ensues the best transformation scene in film history as baby becomes THE SUCKLING. It traps everyone inside the whorehouse with a giant web of some sort that covers all the doors and windows. Then the killing starts.

This flick had a pretty decent opening and a wacky OTT ending but dragged just a tad in the middle. For some reason, during the closing credits, there was a completely non sequitur scene of someone ripping their face off while two kids watched and this was easily the most accomplished effect in the whole movie--just thought I'd mention that. Fans of Monsturd, Street Trash, and Hennenlotter flicks probably won't be disappointed with this raunchy chestnut.

Slime City är rätt kass, sålde min utgåva. Ångrar det dock lite nu då den är så förbannat cheesy att den passar bra att skratta åt tillsammans med polare. Dessutom fanns där massor av intressant extramaterial jag aldrig såg.

Här finns det plats även för riktigt ostiga rullar.

Jag gillade Slime City , köpte den på amerikansk DVD av DarkDisc.

This movie is a classic example of stinky cheese...I loved it!

This movie has everything that makes a bad movie worth watching - sloppy editing, little to no continuity, insane dialog, bad (you might even say non-existent) acting, pointless story lines, shots that go on FAR too long...and it's perfect for MST3K-style riffing, not to mention the "Corpse Eaters Drinking Game": Scribble on forms...take a shot - Sign your name...take a shot - Catch a bad Foley edit...take many, many shots.

The only reason I didn't rate it higher than 8 is because there's not enough gratuitous nudity and because despite its insane badness, it's only an hour long -hell, a movie like this should have been at least 20-30 minutes longer!

I watched this flick yesterday and I have to say it's the finest horror film made for $36,000 I've ever seen (Sorry Steckler) The film is definitely worth seeking out if you are a zombie fan. This movie reeks of soul and atmosphere. Some of the shots of the zombs are the best ever committed to film. VERY creepy looking dusty webbed corpses slowly shamble to their screaming victims. Brrrrrrr.

Hot saggy Canadian women with sexy accents will keep you preoccupied before the HORROR rears its undead corpse eating head. This film entertained from start to finish. I couldn't ask for more than that. My only complaint is that is was too short.

Night of the Demons 2 (1994)

A fun sequel to the enjoyable original

Snarky Shirley Finnerty (a nicely bitchy performance by luscious brunette Zoe Trilling) and her friends from St. Rita's High School decide to have a Halloween party at the infamous Hull House. The kids find out that stories pertaining to the place being haunted are anything but silly or far-fetched. The malevolent spirit of Angela (slinky Amelia Kinkade) is still alive and ready to wreak some major league nasty havoc. Ably directed by seasoned Australian exploitation movie expert Brian Trenchard-Smith, with a suitably crude script by Joe Augustyn, plentiful gratuitous female nudity, a thrashin' rock soundtrack, polished cinematography by David Lewis, a wild pull-out-the-stops last third, an amusingly campy sense of goofy humor, and a spooky score by Jim Manzie, this pictures makes for a pleasingly trashy tongue-in-cheek hoot. Moreover, the cast are all solid, with especially praiseworthy work from Jennifer Rhodes as the stern, but spunky Sister Gloria, Cristi Harris as the sweet, adorable Bibi, Merle Kennedy as Angela's timid sister Mouse, Bobby Jacoby as the nerdy Perry, Johnny Moran as the libidinous Johnny, Christine Taylor as yummy blonde Terri, Rod McCary as the uptight, skeptical Father Bob, and Darin Heames as the raucous Z-boy. In addition, Steve Johnson's excellent make-up f/x really deliver the grotesque goods; grisly highlights include a slimy snake-like creature horribly violating a lovely young lass, a guy having his neck snapped, a juicy decapitation, a possessed dude's head melting after its drenched with holy water, and one fellow's severed noggin being used as a basketball. Plus the giant Angela humanoid snake monster which pops up at the end is genuinely gnarly. Sure, this flick definitely ain't no work of subtle and sophisticated art, but it's still perfectly entertaining nonsense just the same.
