The Body Shop (1973, aka Dr. Gore)

J.G."Pat" Patterson is Dr. Gore in this campy 70s "lost film"

If your looking for a very funny and weird 70's horror movie, try to locate a copy of "Dr. Gore". J.G."Pat" Patterson pretends to be Dr. Frankenstien in this homegrown gore-flick with the help of his hunchback,cigar-smoking, bearded helper, "Greg". His goal is to create a perfect woman from parts he manages to cut off unwilling subjects. I love all the cheap laboratory effects(including wrapping a woman in Reynolds Wrap, then setting the stage alive with fireworks),and I can recommend this movie to anyone who loves cheap cinema and Herschell Gordon Lewis who tells about J.G. Patterson in the preface of the film.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0155350/

Ännu en film man känner att man bara måste se. :ymparty:

Horribly awesome zombie movie
I wish all movies were this great. It's a movie where zombies come out of a television and it's up to 2 goofy teenagers and some sort of zombie hunter to stop them. The acting was horrible, it's set in the mid-80's and has all the big hair and cheesy music you could ask for. The plot has millions of holes in it that are explained with brief statements by the supporting cast, and there is plenty of blood in it. The only disappointing thing about this movie is that there were a few spots that could have been gory as hell but just weren't taken advantage of. For one, the part where the zombie's hand gets thrown in the garbage disposal. And then the part where some lady was stuffed in a washer; blood could have been everywhere, but no blood. Other than that, the movie was cool. The best line was after the dog got lost and April saying in one run-on sentence "You don't understand he likes to go into the woods and try to mate with skunks only skunks don't like to mate with poodles so they spray him and then he really gets turned on!". Solid!

Evil Spawn (1987)

Detta verkar ju vara en riktigt skräpig & go' B-skräckis. :ymparty:
Bobbie (Mausoleum) Bresee medverkar.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092992

Nå't för Abbe kanske? Den är ju från -87.

In this rehash of Roger Corman's "The Wasp Woman", Bobbie Bresee plays Lynn Roman, an attractive but aging actress whose career is all but over. Desperate to recapture her youth and hopefully rejuvenate her career, she injects herself with a serum devised by mad scientist Emil Zeitman (a weak looking John Carradine). This has the unfortunate side effect of turning her into a murderous insect-like monster.

"Evil Spawn" is basically for those of us who aren't too demanding, or are able to derive enjoyment out of very low budget and low quality genre entertainment. If you can stick it out, the film will reward you with gratuitous nudity (Pamela Gilbert looks very good sans clothes), an overbearing electronic score, a very silly rubber monster, and crude but amusing makeup effects. The acting is exactly as uninspired as you could imagine, although Dawn Wildsmith as Zeitman's evil assistant and Fox Harris as Lynn's agent are a reasonable amount of fun.

Overall, I found it quite agreeable. At least it doesn't waste time in delivering all manner of cheap 'n' cheesy goods. It's over pretty quickly and has a conclusion that's downright hilarious in its ridiculous and clichéd way. It even comes complete with a not exactly subtle message about the dangers of vanity, and is blatantly self-referential, to boot.

Be sure to watch for the fleeting Forrest J. Ackerman cameo as a pool guy.

8/10

Bild

Bobbie Bresee stars as fading movie queen Lynn Roman in this low budget sci-fi/horror film from director Kenneth J. Hall. Finding herself turned down again and again for roles she could have easily landed just a few years earlier, Lynn is becoming increasingly desperate to return to regain her youthful appearance. So, she jumps at the opportunity when a scientist who is working with Venusian microbes on a "fountain of youth" serum approaches her to test it. Lynn is thrilled when it appears to work but, unfortunately, it also periodically changes her into a hideous bug monster that seems to have a predilection for Hollywood producers who have snubbed Lynn.

Så'na här obskyrigheter är alltid av stort intresse. :ymparty:

Pretty good horror film
When twelve-year-old alienated boy Jamie Benjamin stumbles across a deep pit housing centuries-old troll-like creatures,he takes it upon himself to see that the monsters are well fed.But the finances of a twelve-year-old go only so far. After stealing both money and meat prove to be dead ends,Jamie decides to take the advice of his perverse teddy bear and lure all the unfriendly members of town into the inescapable bowls of 'The Pit'."The Pit" by Lew Lehman is a mixed bag:it definitely has an interesting concept and the acting is surprisingly decent, however the plot is quite boring and there is a minimal amount of blood and gore.Still the relationship between Jamie and Teddy is well-developed and has to be the strongest aspect of the film.Despite some obvious flaws "The Pit" is a truly original horror flick that kept me entertained.Give it a look.7 out of 10.

Twists And Turns Abound In This Chiller!

A letter is discovered by a game warden investigating a double homicide in the Alps. He mails it. As it turns out the letter is from a man who has been dead for years.

Jamie Gillis, one of the porn stars spoofed in Boogie Nights, plays a sort of James Bond type who treks up into the Alps with a team of researchers and soon discovers a group of long-deceased American World War II soldiers hiding out. The soldiers have found a special fountain-of-youth chemical called Gamma 693 which enables them to live forever, but at a cost.

The film is filled with twists and turns, especially the ending which I still watch over and over.

Gillis is another porn star who has tried to go legit and probably could have as he is very talented. He decides to under-play his character and not in that annoying Roger Moore kind of way. He coolly lets everyone else yell and scream while he remains calm even in the important final scene when confronted by the soldiers and must make a choice.

The special effects aren't all that bad either. A great viewing experience.

Mental Illness -- Funky 70's Style

This movie doesn't screw around--in the opening scene, the protagonist, Matthew as a small child, hops on a tractor and runs over his father for no apparent reason. He then somehow manages to jump off of the tractor and jam his arm under the tread. As a result, his hand is replaced by a hook and he is sent away to a mental hospital to be released as an adult (played by Fred Holbert).

The soft-spoken, adult Matthew comes home to find that his mother has remarried without his knowledge. After this, Matthew evidently decides that he has to kill A LOT of people, starting with his mother and stepfather. This is just the first twenty minutes or so; from there, he goes all SORTS of crazy. He becomes obsessed with a young woman, Vera (Leigh Mitchell), who is both a painter and a prostitute. In an effort to woo her, he kills an entire family, takes their house, and kidnaps the object of his obsession in order to live out a marriage fantasy of some sort. There's a story in there somewhere, but its only function is to move Matthew from one gory death to another.

This is easily seen as an early slasher flick, in which the audience is shown everything from the killer's point of view as he moves from victim to victim. Matthew's compulsion to kill is explained away as an innate, yet strongly Oedipal, evil that society mistakenly labeled an illness.

SCREAM BLOODY MURDER is, overall, among the better movies made during the slasher craze of the 1970's and 80's, and could be considered a forgotten gem among fans of the genre. I got my hands on this movie through Mill Creek's Chilling Classics 50 Movie pack, meaning that this movie is probably public domain and anyone interested might be able to see it for free through online sources.

So bad it's not just good, it's epic.

Ah, the golden days of High School. My twin brother and I would go to the local video shop, located in the deep shadow cast by "Mega-Video Mall and Lobotomy" across the street, and spend our summer days trying to find the WORST horror film ever made. And by "worst", of course, I mean "best".

To some people Vertigo changes their view of film. For others it's a Godard piece or a Kurosawa study. For me, my epic is Gore-met Zombie Chef From Hell. A movie so ludicrous, inane, bad, lame, and annoying that every frame REEKS of the love for film. Nobody could EVER see a 'production' of this sort to completion if there wasn't a bone deep, cellular level love of all things film. This movie is almost a tragedy in that sense. People actually took the time and effort to create, film, and release what was probably not a good idea in the first place, no matter how drunk they were when it came to them. I've heard rumors that this was an attempt by porn filmmakers to make a legitimate film that would rescue them from the fringes of show business. If that is true, as I used to believe as a high schooler, then it is akin to watching a calamity in which no one survives: you feel horror, shock, pity, and anger, touched with a sense of wonder and a strange desire to latch onto the feelings the moment stoked in your heart. This movie should be played in a modern art museum somewhere.

So bad it achieves a level nearing beauty. So inept as to be almost unbelievable. So unwatchably bad that it actually re-enters the other side of the spectrum as fan-freaking-tastic.

I wish someone would track down the cast and crew and write a screenplay about the filming of this movie.

Vet att Vipco gett ut denna. :)

Very creepy 70's vampire flick

I wasn't really expecting Grave Of The Vampire to be very good. I bought it because I found it in a bargain section for only a couple of bucks. I must say, that it was well worth what I paid for it. Grave Of The Vampire has one of the most atmospheric graveyard scenes that comes to mind. Weird lighting, fog, and sinister music really make the opening scene in an old cemetery quite effective. Michael Pataki makes a great vampire. Actually, he looks like a zombie vampire during the opening scene, which I really liked. The film is very dated, so don't go into it expecting it to be comparable to something like Blade for example. However, for a good, spooky night movie it certainly hit the mark.

early 70's horror with good atmosphere

I would probably say this was on a par with films like "Devil's Rain" and that sort of film, although this is probably a bit better made. I love 70's horror and this has most of the elements that make up other movies I like so it was pretty easy to enjoy. A family on their vacation stumble across a small town where the people seem to be gripped by some sort of hysteria. Seems like the children have been disappearing. After an initial attempt to flee this place, the family is somehow stopped on the edge of town and find their way back, but not without first finding a house where the kids are gone and mommy and daddy are dead. Seems like we have a different kind of twist on a senior citizen community center in this town, they're all Satan worshipers and they need the kids to renew their lives so they can continue on in their service, I guess. Not that anyone seems too keen on giving up their kids for this enterprise. This is fairly classy considering that it's scary and creepy without buckets of gore or the loud startling events that try to make people jump in films today, which seem to have replaced actual scares. We have Hank Kimball (Alvy Moore) from "Green Acres" as Tobey, a sheriff's deputy that reads UFO magazines, and LQ Jones as the sheriff, and a very familiar character actor as the dad of the stranded family. And Strother Martin plays the doctor who seems to be doing double duty unbeknown to his fellow townsfolk. This is pretty good stuff but a tad on the confusing side sometimes, but overall works pretty well & is recommended for fans of 70's horror. 8 out of 10.

Rekommenderas!

So cheesy...so what...it's good.

OK, we have all read our bad reviews about this movie. Lets get over it and move on. I'm a fan of cheese low budget gore to the extreme so this movie ( for a fan such as myself ) makes a lot of my collection feel like an ACTUAL movie. I love it. As I've said many times before, there is a special feel that I like to these low budget films, especially of the 80's films. The atmosphere in this movie was pretty creepy which was nice. The zombies wrapped in foil, okay..it's funny, but they did a pretty good job on capturing the overall feel of what a zombie film is suppose to have. It's not your average zombie film but enough to keep most zombie fans entertained. Pick it up and check it out. The least it could be is another one to add to your collection.

Well done, John!

*** This review may contain spoilers ***

Go John! John Saxon! Go John! We love you! John Saxon: star AND director of this surprisingly inventive and ambitious horror gem that somewhat feels like a successful crossover between cheesy American 80's horror and gore-drenched Italian cult. Saxon perfectly found the middle path between these two styles because he's familiar with both (the titles on his resume go from "Blood Beach" to "Cannibal Apocalypse") and he delivers a hugely enjoyable little film that deserves more attention from genre fans, if you ask me. Granted, it's quite a bizarre film and the first 30 minutes nearly make you fear you purchased an ordinary 80's action flick with dire car-chases and implausible mafia shootouts. But this opening is just a very extended introduction of the main character, Derek. He's a heroic Vietnam veteran, framed for murder by his mafia-employer and sent to the death row of a nasty prison. And his situation only gets worse, since this prison is chosen by the government as a place to experiment with new and highly dangerous types of drugs. The guinea pigs rapidly turn into ravenous zombies but the army puts the entire building under quarantine, so even the prisoners and guards that aren't infected can't escape! John Saxon rewarded himself with the role of the evil colonel who runs the whole operation. The script of "Zombie Death House" is often quite messy and incoherent, but it's full of action and ingenious little surprises that make you forget all the flaws easily. I know the zombies aren't actual "zombies". They're more like infected persons as in "Nightmare City" or "Hell of the Living Dead" but – seriously – who cares? Their flesh is rotting, they hunt and kill humans and they're damn difficult to destroy…that's good enough for me! The prison setting is excellent, with secret tunnels and freaky execution chambers all over the place, the make-up effects are effectively gruesome and the story even foresees a few genuine shock-moments (the rape-scene!!). Maybe my opinion shouldn't be trusted, since I'm John Saxon's greatest fan, but horror fans certainly won't regret giving this 80's gem a chance.

Don't Look in the Basement (1973)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069994/

A real drive-in clasick!

If you love drive-in cheeze from the early '70s you will just love this one.How could you go wrong with a low budget film about bloodshed in a lunatic asylum? You can't! Crazy folks and sharp objects are always an entertaining combination.

The film looks like it was shot inside someone's house for about $320.65. For me that just ads to the fun of watching this type of stuff. The gore is a bit mild compared to others of this ilk,but there is enough to keep us bloodthirsty sickos (like myself)happy. Some horror films drag in parts and leave you waiting for something to happen. That's not the case here. The characters are entertaining enough to make every frame quite enjoyable. There is never a dull moment from start to finish. The mind melting climax at the end that is just unbelievable. I liked it so much that right after the end credits I watched it a second time. It's an absolute must see for any self respecting drive-in horror nut.

9.5/10 on the Drive-in-Freak-O-Meter...required viewing

Yea I love you..I DO love you...now take your Thorazine and put your clothes back on...please...
